Dear UO food studies community,

We are pleased to announce the graduate students and projects that have been selected for this year’s Food Studies Graduate Research Grant:

1. Zachary Clayton, Human Physiology: “The role of Pik3r1 in the regulation of adipose tissue insulin sensitivity.”

2. Kassandra Hishida, Environmental Studies: “Planting Food Justice in School Gardens: Designing and Implementing an Environmental Education Curriculum.”

3. Yi-lun Huang, English: “The Birth of an American Staple Fruit: Reading Bananas from Cookbooks, Recipes, and Home Magazines.”

4. Jared Pruch, Environmental Studies:  “Conservation, Agriculture, and Collaboration: How are Oregon’s Land Trusts Engaging with Young Farmers and Ranchers?”

The awardees will share the results of their research with the UO food studies community next year with a presentation in the “Food Talks” series—watch for announcements!

The Food Studies Awards Committee and Advisory Council hope that students will consider complementing their degree with a UO Food Studies Graduate Specialization. For more details on this new program, please contact Professor Stephen Wooten (swooten@uoregon.edu).

We wish them much success with their research.

Sincerely,

The UO Food Studies Graduate Research Awards Committee
